Memu'ute at Te'ekata

Memute at Te'ekata - Photograph ©Juan Negrín 1976

These three memu'ute (pl.) have resided at Te'ekata since ancient times, the abode of Tatewarí, Our Grandfather Fire. A memuu is a rock, sculpted in the form of a deity or ancestor and is used and placed as an offering in sacred places. Unfortunately, the one in the center representing Tatei Yurienaka, Our Mother Fertile Earth, was stolen years ago by a looter. It is our hope that posting this photo can aid in the return of this priceless memuu to its rightful owners and home in the sacred place of Te'ekata.
