The tepari is one of the most significant ritual objects in Wixarika symbolic culture. It is a disc-like stone that is used to cover a hole or a well where offerings are deposited to ancestral deities in the underworld. Pacheco’s novel is a tepari that opens our vision to a world of profound realities that are hidden behind the world of appearances; a nierika or mirror that presents us with images from another world.
